Teaching

Tracey first discovered her passion for teaching as a tour guide at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Watching patrons, especially “reluctant museum-goers,” really get involved with the art as they learned more about it inspired Tracey to continue haring her knowledge and skills, particularly in the areas of costume design and crafts. In 2004 she acted as the Interim Costume Director of the Undergraduate Theatre Department at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, supervising Graduate Assistants and student designers as well as teaching a costume and make up design lecture. In 2012 Tracey co-developed and taught a custom curriculum for Costume Design for Character Development for the Drawing and Animation Department at SVA. In 2013 Tracey’s teaching veered toward the tactile as she began teaching children’s sewing classes and adult craft classes at a variety of venues including The Fashion Class, The Westside YMCA, The Folk Art Museum, Brooklyn General Store, and Make Meaning. Tracey believes that all of her students are capable of making things that are both beautiful and useful.
